Lourens Alma Tadema was born on 8 January 1836 in the village of Dronryp in the province of Friesland in the north of the Netherlands. Lourens Alma Tadema's birth house and statue in Dronryp, Netherlands Though admired during his lifetime for his draftsmanship and depictions of Classical antiquity, his work fell into disrepute after his death, and only since the 1960s has it been re-evaluated for its importance within nineteenth-century British art. Alma-Tadema was considered one of the most popular Victorian painters. A classical-subject painter, he became famous for his depictions of the luxury and decadence of the Roman Empire, with languorous figures set in fabulous marbled interiors or against a backdrop of dazzling blue Mediterranean Sea and sky. Born in Dronryp, the Netherlands, and trained at the Royal Academy of Antwerp, Belgium, he settled in London, England in 1870 and spent the rest of his life there. Consolation for Unpopularity ( Socrates).Consolation for Not Having Enough Money ( Epicurus).Consolation for Inadequacy ( Montaigne).Consolation for Difficulties ( Nietzsche).Consolation for a Broken Heart ( Schopenhauer). These are categorised in a number of chapters with one philosopher used in each. In Consolations, de Botton attempts to console the reader through everyday problems (or at least help them to understand them) by extensively quoting and interpreting a number of philosophers. The title of the book is a reference to Boethius's magnum opus Consolation of Philosophy, in which philosophy appears as an allegorical figure to Boethius to console him in the year he was imprisoned, leading up to his impending execution. First published by Hamish Hamilton in 2000, subsequent publications (2001 onwards) have been by Penguin Books. The Consolations of Philosophy ( ISBN 1-0) is a non-fiction book by Alain de Botton. "A sensational book, telling a remarkable true story that few know, even those in the intelligence business. Mombi transformed Ozma into a boy and called him "Tip" (short for Tippetarius) in order to prevent the rightful ruler of Oz from ascending to the throne. As an infant, she was given to the witch Mombi of the North by the Wizard of Oz. Ozma is the daughter of the former King Pastoria of Oz. But overall, I loved her and she was a great narrator, surprisingly. She was, I may admit, annoying to me at the end, as she seemed totally blind. And I just found her SUPER relatable to me (and yet slightly annoying? Whatever.) towards the middle. And she’s slightly impulsive … leaving to lots of carnage. Her only emotion is towards Sidonia … and that is due to chemicals – though that doesn’t make it any less real. It almost reminded me of Cinder (which I didn’t love … but I enjoyed the feel of). This book … I just … I loved the whole feel of this book. Nemesis is totally kick-ass.Īnd this book is about her finding her “hidden humanity,” so we still have relatable moments with her, which is quite touching … and kind of disturbing? (I mean – being able to relate to Nemesis?)Īnd I don’t know. A lot of books have loads of propaganda for their “emo-less” MC … but this book actually delivers. This leads her to be pretty emotionless/harsh towards everyone except for Donia. Nemesis is bred to protect one person, and one person only no matter the cost. I love it!!! (Aaaaalso, be proud of me!!! I have scheduled out a bunch of posts! Whoop!) But technicalities, amirite? She’s all but one.Īnyways, today I’m (obviously) reviewing the AMAZING book, The Diabolic (the first in Sorry to mislead you all like that, but the Diabolic (Nemesis) isn’t ACTUALLY an assassin. pdfĕ77.07 KBĪnthology- Boundless - Annie Dean, Bonnie Dee, Dionne Galace.pdfĕ50.12 KBīonnie Dee & T.
